Then, sort the items into three piles: keep, donate, and sell. This will help you get an idea of what pieces you already have that can be used in your capsule wardrobe and what pieces you need to purchase.
Once you've sorted through your existing clothing, it's time to start building your capsule wardrobe!
I recommend starting with the basics: a few pairs of pants, some tops, and a cardigan or two. Black pants are always a good choice because they can be easily dressed up or down. If you don't own any black pants, consider purchasing a pair (or two) of dark-wash jeans instead.
As for tops, choose neutral colors like white, black, grey, or navy blue. You can never go wrong with a classic white t-shirt—it goes with everything!
Then, add one or two cardigans in colors that complement the rest of your wardrobe; I love black, grey, and navy blue cardigans because they're so versatile.
Once you have the basics down, you can start adding in some fun pieces! If you love color, add a couple of brightly-colored tops or dresses to your capsule wardrobe. Or if you prefer patterns, add a printed top or scarf.
